Portraiture

I have been drawing portraits of people for a very long time, probably started when I was drawing with crayon on walls at home. I eventually reached a level where people actually wanted to pay me to draw their portraits, which was amazing to me as a kid. Things naturally changed as I grew older and continued to develop my style, the work became better and the responsibilities too. I love portrait work and I truly understand and recognize the great responsibility and trust I have been given to capture that beloved person or pet just right.

It gives me great pleasure to hear (or read) "Jim, you have really caught the person, the very essence of him" ...this makes me feel very good. I work to meet and hopefully go beyond your expectations!

Process

I need to have lots of good, clear pictures from different angles. Colour pictures work best of course (even if I am doing portrait in black and white), and you can send them to me digitally (via email) or if you only have prints, by mail.

You can email me what you are looking for in the portrait; tell me about the person or the pet, I know you love them so give me all the details. From our dialogue and the pictures you send me I will draw a couple of rough drafts for you to look at. Together we can discuss which to pursue. After that I get to work to complete the portrait. It will be well packaged with lots of protection and I use a courier to deliver it to you.

Payment Method

I think the fairest way to proceed is to be paid half the commission after draft approval, and the balance due upon portrait completion which will be approved electronically (via email) prior to shipping.
